Comments on

When visitors leave comments on a website, we collect the information shown on the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser interface string, to help identify spam.

The Gravatar service may be presented with an anonymous string (also called a hash) generated from your email address to see if you use it. The Gravatar Service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

When uploading images to the website, you should avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website will be able to download and extract any location data from the images on the website.

Cookies

When you leave a comment on our website, you may consent to your name, email address and website being stored in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you don’t have to re-enter your details if you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.

When you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and will be destroyed when you close your browser.

When you sign in, we also set a number of cookies to store your login details and screen display choices. Login cookies persist for two days and display options cookies persist for one year. If you choose “Remember me”, your login will be retained for two weeks. When you log out of your account, the login cookies are removed.

When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data and simply shows the post ID of the article you have just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content on other websites will behave in exactly the same way as if the visitor had visited another website.

These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, embed additional third party tracking and track your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with embedded content when you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we keep your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be kept indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically recognise and approve all follow-up comments, rather than keeping them in the moderation queue.

For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users will be able to view, change or delete their personal information at any time (except that they will not be able to change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights do you have over your data?

If you have an account on this website or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal information we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us. You may also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data that we are required to retain for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitors’ comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
